Health & Wellness
Supporting physical and mental well-being as a foundation for sustainable, long-term sobriety.
Recovery is a whole-person transformation. At The Comeback Sober Living, we recognize that physical health and mental wellness are not separate from recovery — they are essential to it. Our program actively encourages habits, routines, and choices that support the body and mind so that residents can show up fully for the work of building a sober life.
The Mind-Body Connection in Recovery
Substance use takes a severe toll on the body. Chronic substance use disrupts sleep, depletes essential nutrients, weakens the immune system, and impairs cognitive function. But recovery is also a physical process of healing. When men prioritize their physical health in early recovery, they sleep better, think more clearly, feel more stable emotionally, and have more energy to engage with the work of recovery.
At The Comeback, we create an environment that supports physical healing from day one. This includes providing nutritious meals, encouraging regular physical activity, and helping residents establish healthy daily routines that support both their body and their recovery.
Nutrition and Meals
We provide nutritious meals for all residents. Proper nutrition is often overlooked in early recovery, but it plays a critical role in brain chemistry, mood regulation, and overall health. Shared mealtimes also serve a social function — they are moments for connection, routine, and community that reinforce the brotherhood culture of The Comeback.
Physical Fitness and Activity
Exercise is one of the most powerful natural tools for supporting recovery. It reduces cravings, alleviates depression and anxiety, improves sleep, and releases endorphins that help restore the brain's reward system after the damage caused by addiction. We actively encourage residents to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines — whether that is hitting the gym, going for morning runs, playing sports, or simply taking regular walks.
Van Nuys and the San Fernando Valley offer excellent access to parks, gyms, hiking trails, and recreational facilities, making it easy for residents to stay active and enjoy the physical benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Mental Health and Emotional Wellness
Many men in recovery are also dealing with underlying mental health challenges — anxiety, depression, trauma, or PTSD. Our program is not a clinical mental health treatment program, but we do create an environment that supports emotional wellness through structure, connection, honest communication, and access to outside mental health resources.
We encourage residents to maintain connections with therapists, psychiatrists, or counselors during their time at The Comeback, and we support them in finding appropriate mental health resources in the Los Angeles area if they do not already have them.
